Ephesians 4:29

Our pastor preached a very convicting sermon last Sunday.
One question he asked that will stick with me forever was this:

“If someone were to tape-record every word that you said throughout the week, and then play it back for everyone to hear, what would it reveal about your heart?”

Would that tape recording be something you are proud of…something that you want all of your friends to hear?

He went on to say that Ephesians 4:29 (“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.”) does not just mean “Don’t say swear words.”  But even more so, it is encouraging us to speak ENCOURAGING words, words that build others up.
