Life

What is the purpose, why am I here,
What really matters,  what do I hold dear?

Sometimes life is clouded, the important brushed aside,
Walking blind though the day, we watch years quickly glide.

We do the same things, day in and day out,
With no more than a thought, without even a doubt.

We waste our time thinking of the things of this earth,
And don’t understand they hold nothing of worth.

We forget what we’re here for, confused with obsessions,
Distracted with life, and all of its attractions.

The only thing lasting, the souls He can save,
The life that continues even after the grave.

Yesterday’s gone, only memories left,
Will any part of it last beyond moths rust and theft?

Tomorrow’s not promised, so live every day
In a loving and kind and forgiving way.

This day we’ve been given from our father above,
We have this one chance to live life with love.

Do your best to make the most of every opportunity,
So you have no regrets, work together in unity.

  1. Wow! What an amazing poem! I LOVE it!!! It deeply touches my heart as I meditate on all the biblical wisdom and truth it represents! I think it will speak to a lot of people, as we all wrestle with keeping Godly perspectives and priorties in life, and as we live in this world, but not of it! It is packed with Godly exhortation! I was sure encourged to renew my mind with the truth of God's word and rethink how I am living my life! Thank you for writing such an amazing poem! Here are just a few of the verses that I have sought to renew my mind with after reading your wise words. . .

"Show me, O Lord, my life's end and the number of my days; let me know how fleeting is my life. You have made my days a mere handbreadth; the span of my years is as nothing before you. Each man's life is but a breath. Man is a mere phantom as he goes to and fro: He bustles about, but only in vain; he heaps up wealth, not knowing who will get it. But now, Lord what do I look for? My hope is in you."
    Psalm 39:4-7

"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, but where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourseves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." Matthew 5:19-21

"Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, he love of the Father is not in him. For everything in the world - the cravings of sinful man, the lust of the eyes and the boasting of what he has and does - comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of the God lives forever."
    1 John 2:15-17

"Why you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ouight to say, 'If it is the Lord's will, we will live and do this or that.'" James 4:14-15

"Be very careful, then, how you live ~ not as unswise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity . . . " Ephesians 5:15-16

"For we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but one what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal."
    2 Corinthians 4:18

"And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus . . ."
    Colossians 3:17

"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men."
    Colossians 3:23

"Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with eath other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity." Colossians 3:12-14

"May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus, so that with one heart and mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ." Romans 15:5-6

"If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender by body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing. Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no recored of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails." 1 Corinthians 13:1-8
